Churches That Taught Me to Love the Church: Part 5

Wrapping up this look at churches today by highlighting Blount Community Church in Alcoa, TN.

Three years or so into my tenure at Sevier Heights (see yesterday), I heard about a brand new church in Blount County (right next door to Knox County). I started learning from a distance from BCC at that point. About a year before our launch I got to meet Jeff Fuchs and Kenny Crook for lunch for the first time. Honestly, here’s what I expected - these guys are going to have the attitude that because I’m coming from Sevier Heights we already have everything we need and they’re going to think that I think I know it all so they’re going to be standoffish. Just the opposite was true.

Jeff and Kenny (and Rodney, who was the worship leader there at the time) bent over backwards to help us with any info we needed. Then, they gave us money. They personify the attitude that we’re all in this together.

I also love their heart for the practical. Both of them teach and lead with this thought in mind: why does this matter? They really believe Jesus can change someone’s eternity and their life on earth as well. It’s really cool to me that we’re going to get to lead new churches in close proximity for a long time. I look forward to calling BCC a friend for a long time!
